By:  Stefann Robinson

HOUSTON – The Texas Southern University women’s basketball 2009 recruiting class has received a projected ranking of 135th among the nations 342 NCAA Division I basketball programs according to the All-Star Girls Report.

“It is extremely exciting for us to be projected among the top recruiting classes,” said first-year head coach Yolanda Wells-Broughton.  “However, it all comes to fruition on signing day.

“This is important for us as we rebuild our program.  It will open some doors for us as we move to a higher level.”

The Lady Tigers are the only Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) school and one of only two Historically Black Colleges and Universities projected to be among the nations top recruiting classes for players entering college for the 2009-10 academic year.

The recruiting rankings are based on national rank, high school, junior college and collegiate transfer players.  All verbal commitments, which are non-binding until the November signing day, are included among the list.
